The Sultanate logged 970 road collisions in the first six months of this year, including 10 fatalities.

These figures were provided during a road safety awareness programme for personnel from the Prime Minister’s Office, held at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) on Wednesday.

Statistics shared by the National Road Safety Council (MKKJR) provided a breakdown of the road accidents as involving heavy vehicles (22 cases), motorcycles (14 cases), pedestrians (six cases) and cyclists (four cases).

The programme is one of the initiatives under the Brunei Darussalam Road Safety Strategic Plan 2025 aimed at highlighting the importance of road safety.

Personnel from the MTIC and the Land Transport Department (JPD) delivered briefings on the traffic laws and accompanying fines for breaching them.

They also urged motorists to exercise caution when behind the wheel, to abide by the speed limits and road rules, to avoid texting while driving, to properly map out their journey ahead, and to factor in weather conditions before heading out.
