Brunei Darussalam’s under-16 national team endured a miserable afternoon at the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Under-16 Boys’ Championship after they were defeated 10-0 by Timor Leste in Group ‘B’ at the Sultan Agung Stadium in Bantul on Thursday.
Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim ibni Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah captained the national under-16 team in his second appearance at the tournament.
Timor Leste captain Alexandro Bakhito Corsino Lemos led the annihilation with a four-goal display, temporarily sending his side to the top of the table at least before the late kick-off between Laos and Thailand.
The Young Wasps managed to keep their opponents at bay for more than half an hour before Alexandro Bakhito broke their resistance in the 34th minute.
He added a second goal for his team just five minutes later as Brunei went into the break down by only two goals.
However, the Sultanate’s young charges collapsed as Timor Leste ran riot with a deluge of goals.
The Young Little Samba Nation extended their lead with midfielder Luis Berdila da Silva adding a third in the 52nd minute before defender Norbert Jonerson Frances Mota Goncalves joined in the act three minutes later.
Brunei defender Awangku Muhammad Arshrul Irfan scored an own goal in the 54th minute.
Bakhito continued to inflict damage after completing his hat-trick in the 65th minute before scoring his fourth of the game in the 74th.
Timor Leste midfielder Vabio Canavaro Araujo Santos Pires made it 8-0 in the 76th minute before Jeremias dos Santos added his name in the score-sheet three minutes later.
Forward Totifanio Fortunato De Fatima Amaral completed Brunei’s misery as he made it double digits for his team four minutes from time.
The national under-16 team will conclude their campaign against Laos on Sunday.
