The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) reminded the public yesterday that archery activities without approval and adherence to guidelines are prohibited and are against the law because archery equipment, such as arrows, is categorised as offensive weapons.

Under Section 29(1), Chapter 148 of the Public Order Act, carrying a dangerous weapon in a public place can lead to legal action against the individual, and if found guilty, may be imprisoned for at least one year and no more than 10 years with at least three strokes of the cane.

The police said archery has been increasingly popular in the Sultanate. However, only two archery associations are officially recognised – the Brunei Darussalam Archery Association and Setia Bersatu Archery club.

The RBPF has received intelligence on private archery activities conducted without permission from the authorities.

The police urged the public interested in archery to seek advice from registered associations to learn about the rules and guidelines.
