The Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) yesterday advised the public to switch off their water dispensers when not in use.

The advice follows a fire on March 31 in the Mentiri Complex area where it was found to have originated from a water dispenser.

The FRD issued the advice on its official Facebook page.

“Users of water dispensers at home or offices need to ensure that the appliance should be turned off before leaving. Otherwise, the water dispenser’s electric heater remains running leading to overheating and the risk of a fire.

“Early action and prevention can save lives and property,” the department said.

The FRD also announced that they provide educational safety programmes like the Life Saver 995 course, Fire Marshall course and fire safety talks for the public.

The courses are aimed to provide safety knowledge such as the correct method of using a fire extinguisher during an emergency.
