Magistrate Abdul ‘Azim bin Othman on Tuesday ordered a Bangladeshi man to settle a BND62,000 fine for possessing 63 cartons of smuggled cigarettes.
Hadiul Islam, 43, would have to serve 16 months’ jail in default of payment. The customs prosecutor revealed in court that the defendant was found in possession of 63 cartons smuggled cigarettes, along with a mobile phone, BND2,245.70 and SGD58.52 in cash.
