Brunei Darussalam’s active COVID-19 cases surpassed the 30,000 mark with 31,422 patients following 4,220 new infections on Tuesday.
Of the new COVID-19 cases, 3,614 were from antigen rapid test (ART) screening and 606 from RT-PCR laboratory tests.
Two fatalities were recorded where one is not considered COVID-related due to multiple health problems and one cause of death yet to be determined.
This was disclosed by Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah at a press conference on Tuesday.
The minister was chairing the press conference on behalf of Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar who is under quarantine order.
With the latest infections, the national tally for confirmed COVID-19 cases is 67,762.
Some 2,701 were declared recovered on Tuesday, bringing the total recoveries to 36,213. The bed occupancy rate at isolation centres is 10.8 per cent with 255 patients. A total of 31,167 cases are undergoing home self-isolation.
Six COVID-19 cases are in Category 4, requiring oxygen assistance and under close monitoring while seven cases are in Category 5 needing artificial ventilation and being treated at the intensive care unit. As of February 28, over 94 per cent of Brunei population were fully vaccinated and 54.4 per cent were administered booster shots.
