Brunei Darussalam continued its streak of no cases in Category 5 requiring treatment in the intensive care unit, or respiratory assistance (Category 4) for the fourth day in a row.

There were also no COVID-19 fatalities recorded in the last 24 hours.

The latest COVID-19 situation in the country was shared by Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong during the daily press conference on Tuesday.

Also in attendance was Deputy Permanent Secretary (Professional) at the Ministry of Health Dr Ang Swee Hui.

The minister, who is chairing the press conference on behalf of Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, highlighted that 265 new cases have been reported.

261 were results from antigen rapid tests (ARTs) and four were from RT-PCR laboratory tests performed in the past 24 hours.

The total number of cases recorded in the Sultanate is 145,221.

Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar also said 235 cases have recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 143,295.

Meanwhile, there are 1,705 active cases, with 13 being treated in hospitals, and 1,692 cases undergoing home self-isolation.

On the vaccination rate of children in the country, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar said, “A total of 439 doses of the vaccine were given to children aged five to 11 bringing the total number of first dose vaccinations administered to 32,372, equivalent to 75.4 per cent coverage.”

“A total of 1,010 second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to the same age group, bringing the total second-dose vaccinations to 10,935 doses, which is 25.5 per cent coverage,” he added.

Meanwhile, the coverage rate for the country’s citizens and residents, who have received three doses of the vaccine, is at 68.6 per cent.
