The number of daily new COVID-19 cases in Brunei Darussalam jumped to 300 on Wednesday.

Of these, 298 were from antigen rapid tests (ARTs) and two cases were results from 343 RT-PCR laboratory tests performed in the past 24 hours.

The accumulated confirmed number of cases in the country to date is 145,521. There were no COVID-19 fatalities recorded in the last 24 hours.

The latest updates on the COVID-19 situation in the country was shared by Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar during the daily press conference on Wednesday.

The minister revealed that there were no cases in either Category 5 requiring treatment in the intensive care unit, or Category 4 requiring oxygen assistance.

Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham said 182 cases have recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 143,477.

There are 1,823 active cases, with 13 currently being treated in hospitals, and 1,810 undergoing home self-isolation.

On the vaccination rate for children, the minister said, “As of Tuesday, 268 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were given to children aged five to 11, bringing the total number of first dose vaccinations administered to 32,640, which is 76.1 per cent coverage.

“Meanwhile, 947 second doses of the vaccine were administered to children of the same age group, bringing the total to 11,882 doses which is 27.7 per cent.”

Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham added that the coverage rate in the Sultanate for those who have received three doses is at 68.8 per cent.

Also present at the press conference was Deputy Permanent Secretary (Professional) at the Ministry of Health Dr Ang Swee Hui.
