National taekwondo exponent Muhammad Abrar bin Haji Bakar added a bronze to the country’s growing collection of medals in the Kyorugi Fin Weight (under-54 kilograms) event on Monday at the 21st Malaysian Games (SUKMA XXI) in Kuching, Sarawak.

He shared the bronze medal with Perlis’ Emmanuel Choy-Wan Tan after securing a berth in the semi-finals.

Muhammad Abrar progressed to the quarter-finals after winning an opponent from Negeri Sembilan by a score of 13-10 and 11-11 in the preliminary round.

He was guaranteed a place in the podium after defeating an opponent from Selangor in the quarterfinals.

The national taekwondo star was denied a shot for the gold medal following a 2-1 defeat to Negeri Sembilan’s Ahmad Muhaimin Al Hafiiz in the semi-finals.

Johor’s P Moganarrajan struck gold with Muhammad Abrar’s conqueror Ahmad Muhaimin settling for silver.

As of yesterday, Brunei Darussalam amassed one gold in wushu, two silver in karate, and three bronze in wushu, karate and taekwondo.
