International School Brunei (ISB) held the first showing of its latest musical production showcase, The One Who Lived, at the ISB Theatre last night.

The school production is a unique stage adaptation exclusively written for ISB and loosely inspired by the magical world of Harry Potter while focusing on the heart of the story – friendship, courage, love and the strength to stand up for what is right.

The musical adventure is a tribute to the original story that offers a creative reimagining of the journey, following a female protagonist named Hari Potter, along with her friends and many other familiar faces, through their first year and adventures at a magical school to the final stand against darkness.

From the soaring spectacle of a dragon chase and the rising power of an evil force, both brought to life with bold choreography, to the dramatic tension of the potential fall of the magical school and the rise of a dark army, every scene builds toward the epic final battle of good versus evil. The story was told by a talented cast and crew of ISB students, including Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah binti Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah and Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda Muhammad Aiman ibni Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah.

A total of four shows have been scheduled for the musical, with the next performances to be held tonight at 7pm, tomorrow at 3.30pm and on Friday, at 7pm.

Executive Principal and Chief Executive Officer of ISB Dominic Morley said, “This show has been exclusively written for ISB, bringing fresh twists, music, and dance to the stage. This year, our mostly younger cast steps into the spotlight, taking on many key roles and showcasing their talents.

Over 100 students, including backstage crew, have worked tirelessly, balancing rehearsals with FOBISIA training, fixtures and other commitments – all while demonstrating incredible teamwork and dedication.”

Performing Arts teacher at ISB and director of the production Daisy Poad said, “Our ISB production of The One Who Lived is a celebration of courage, friendship, and the magic that lives within us all. Working with this talented cast and crew has been an absolute joy.

“They have poured their creativity, passion and heart into bringing these characters and their journeys to life. They have shown the very spirit that this story champions resilience, imagination and teamwork. As director of The One Who Lived, I’ve witnessed firsthand the passion, courage, and commitment they’ve poured into every moment of this production.”
