Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof attended the Asia Tech X Singapore 2022 (ATxSG 2022), held in Singapore from May 31 to June 3, as well as courtesy meetings with his regional counterparts.

With the theme ‘Redefining Tech for a Better Future’, the ATxSG 2022 started with the ATxSG Summit 2022 opened by Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies of Singapore Heng Swee Keat.

In his opening remarks, the deputy prime minister emphasised the need to keep an open mind on emerging technologies, remain vigilant and invest in cybersecurity, as well as unlocking new opportunities through collaboration.

Panel sessions were held following the opening session of ATxSG Summit 2022, including sessions on trust and digital economy, as well as sessions focussing on technology, society and the role of policy.

The summit gathered regional and international key policymakers from the government sector as well as leading industry players to discuss areas related to digital economy, emerging technologies and digital innovation across national borders.

The ATxSG 2022 continued with a Ministerial Roundtable Session on Building a Safe and Inclusive Digital Economy, chaired by Singapore Minister for Communications and Information Josephine Teo.

Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib participated in the roundtable by sharing key approaches in realising the potential and opportunities of an inclusive digital economy.

He highlighted the importance of internal coordination in implementing the Digital Economy Masterplan 2025 through the Digital Transformation Plans of each ministry.

These plans will further translate into the digitalisation of industry sectors under the purview of respective ministries, he added.

At the sidelines of the ATxSG 2022, Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib also held courtesy meetings with his counterparts from Singapore and Malaysia.

The courtesy meeting with Teo was held on Monday followed by the signing of a memorandum of understanding to enhance digital cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting with Malaysia’s Minister of Communications and Multimedia Tan Sri Panglima Haji Annuar bin Musa on Tuesday saw the ministers exchange views on current developments and discussed areas of mutual interests to further strengthen the bilateral relations in digital cooperation.

Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib and his delegation also paid working visits to agencies in the digital sector in Singapore, with the objective of sharing and exchanging information, and to learn best practices in the development of the digital sector.

Accompanying the minister was Deputy Permanent Secretary (Infocommunications) at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) Haji Hairul Mohd Daud bin Haji Abdul Karim, along with senior officers from the MTIC and the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI).
