If a recovered COVID-19 patient experiences symptoms, it’s better to get tested using the antigen rapid test to determine if they are infected, said Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, adding that re-infection will be considered as new cases and they will have to carry out home isolation.

The minister said this during a press conference on Monday.

When an individual tests positive for COVID-19, their immunity will be high within a 90-day period after recovery, but new infections can still occur within the time period, he added.

Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham added that the 90-day grace period does not guarantee immunity against the virus.

“It is possible that a person may first be infected with an Omicron variant, and a month later get re-infected with another variant such as the BA.5,” he added. The minister also underlined the importance of taking booster shots to ensure mild symptoms should they be infected.
